Vrouwen en vrijheid na de Arabische lente

Ma'ariv believes that "It is too early to rejoice over the fall of the regime in Libya – after Tunisia and Egypt – because there is no liberation without the liberation of women," and adds that "Whoever oppresses half of the population, on claims of culture and heritage, cannot talk about freedom and democracy; they do not go together." The author also asserts that "There is another test: Relations with Israel. Sayyid Qutb, among the most important founders of the Muslim Brotherhood, sharply opposed the emancipation of women and was an anti-Semite. This is line is characteristic of many radical Muslims. Hatred of Israel has characterized not only the Islamists but also most of the intellectuals, who have never really fought for the status of women."
